Vasant Valley Public School Hosts ‘Science Myth Buster’ Competition, Turning Myths into Scientific Discoveries


Vasant Valley Public School, Ladda (Sangrur), organised an engaging Science Myth Buster

Competition for students of Classes XI and XII from the Medical and Non-Medical streams.

The event provided an intellectually stimulating platform for senior students to question

commonly held beliefs and uncover the scientific facts behind them.

During the competition, students presented a variety of popular myths and misconceptions,

exploring them through logical reasoning, scientific principles, research, and evidence.

Rather than merely identifying a myth as true or false, the participants delved into the

science behind each belief, explaining the concepts and phenomena that helped distinguish

fact from fiction.

The presentations reflected the students’ scientific temperament, analytical thinking,

research aptitude, creativity, confidence, and communication skills. The participants

effectively connected scientific concepts with everyday experiences, making their

presentations informative, engaging, and thought-provoking. The competition also

encouraged students to develop a questioning mindset and appreciate the importance of

evidence-based reasoning.

A distinguished jury panel comprising the School Directors, Ms. Deepika Gupta and Ms.

Savee Gupta, assessed the participants on various parameters, including accuracy of

scientific content, depth of research, clarity of explanation, originality, presentation skills,

and ability to substantiate their arguments with scientific evidence. Their insightful

observations and constructive feedback further enriched the learning experience for the

participants.

The School Chairman, Sh. Sanjay Gupta, appreciated the students for their enthusiastic

participation and commended the teachers for creating a platform that encouraged scientific

inquiry. He emphasized that developing the habit of questioning, investigating, and seeking

evidence enables students to become informed, rational, and responsible thinkers.

The School Principal, Mrs. Anitha Rajagopalan, applauded the participants for their well-

researched and thought-provoking presentations. She remarked that activities such as the

Science Myth Buster Competition extend learning beyond conventional classroom

boundaries by encouraging students to investigate, analyse, challenge assumptions, and

arrive at conclusions based on scientific evidence.

The event concluded on an inspiring note, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for the

power of science to question beliefs, challenge misconceptions, and reveal the truth behind

everyday phenomena. The competition proved to be a stimulating and enriching experience,

successfully nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong spirit of scientific inquiry

among the young minds of Vasant Valley Public School
